Project overview:
Alto’s Odyssey — Remastered is a special edition of the award-winning endless sandboarding game, Alto’s Odyssey, designed exclusively for Apple Arcade.

First released in 2018, Alto’s Odyssey was met with critical acclaim for it’s fluid physics-based movement, procedurally generated environments, and dynamic lighting and weather effects. The game has gone on to receive many awards and nominations, including the prestigious Apple Design Award, a BAFTA nomination and a place in the coveted Independent Games Festival.

Alto’s Odyssey — Remastered expands upon the beloved original, with even more surprises to uncover and challenges to complete—all woven seamlessly into the core experience.

Responsibilities: 

  • Project and studio management

  • Scoping, budgeting and planning of production processes

  • Collating, drafting and presenting pitch materials to external partners

  • Key team member hiring, onboarding and management

  • Design process support and management

  • Publisher and stakeholder liaison

  • External contractor management

  • Creation and release of key marketing assets, and press/social media

  • Testing procedure design and analysis

  • Build submission and release across multiple platforms

  • Community management and support


Off the back of my work on Apple Arcade launch title Mini Motorways (2019) I began discussions with Land & Sea studio/creative director Harry Nesbitt about jumping in to handle the production of two Apple Arcade special editions of the extant App Store versions of the Alto titles. As a longtime fan of the Alto Series, and with my intimate understanding of Apple Arcade as a platform it was an easy decision to join the then team of 2, working as a group to design, implement and release a meaningful new chapter of a much-loved title to a brand new audience.

Having already been through the release of one title on Apple Arcade I was largely responsible for scoping out the technical requirements of the project, authorship of testing procedures, external and internal testing team management, localisation project management, stakeholder communications, release managment and the announcement of the title.

The reception of this title on Apple Arcade has far exceeded our expectations, as well as provided the perfect opportunity for our small team to further formalise our development/release management processes and expand our team.
