Alto’s Odyssey

Role: Senior Producer, Business Development
Date: March 2020 - Present
Developer: Land & Sea
Publisher: Snowman
Platform: Apple Arcade (iOS, tvOS MacOS)

Project overview:
Alto’s Odyssey is an endless sandboarding journey set against a gorgeous and ever-changing desert landscape. As a followup to the critically acclaimed endless snowboarder Alto’s Adventure, Alto’s Odyssey is designed to be enjoyed by returning players and newcomers alike as a standalone experience all its own.

The game features Alto series hallmarks like fluid physics-based movement, procedurally generated terrain, and dynamic lighting and weather effects. This time around, players will soar above windswept dunes, traverse thrilling canyons, and explore long-hidden temple cities in a fantastical place far from Alto’s home village. Along the way, you’ll grind across vines, bounce atop hot air balloons, ride towering rock walls, and escape mischievous lemurs – all while uncovering the desert’s many mysteries.

Responsibilities:

  • Project and studio management

  • Scoping, budgeting and planning of patches and content updates

  • Key team member hiring, onboarding and management

  • Publisher and stakeholder liaison

  • External contractor management

  • Creation and release of key marketing assets, and press/social media

  • Build submission and release across multiple platforms

  • Community management and support

Immediately upon joining the Land & Sea team in March of 2020 I began to work closely with the creative/studio director and senior engineer to continuously monitor and release patches for the 2018 title across iOS, tvOS and macOS devices.

While Alto’s Odyssey is a complete project and has been since its original launch, we frequently make improvements to the codebase and player experience, support new target devices and manange tech debt with the ultimate goal of giving the project life for decades to come. Aside from servicing our passionate fanbase, this has the added benefit of making the project a joy to expand upon and support from a development perspective.

My duties on Alto’s Odyssey largely relate to continuously optimising our release management process, including improving QA resources and procedures, updating older aspects of the codebase/toolset and onboarding new staff into our development environment.
